On Saturday, Oct 19th 2013, hundreds of skaters showed up get their shot at skating the brand new 40,000 square foot Tinnell Memorial Sports Park we built in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The sports park is dedicated to the sacrifice made by fallen soldier and bmx rider Patrick Tinnell, along with Colin Sasseen who lost his life skating in his front yard. In honor of Patrick we built a custom cradle in the shape of his army helmet and for Colin we did a large stained concrete “C” at the bottom of the stair set.
The street course design is inspired by Street League Skateboarding’s “skate plaza-style” course skated by professional skateboarders at the 2013 X Games at Foz Do Iguacu, Brazil. The upper deck of the park has a backyard bowl, a competition flow course and wall ride around a palm tree. The course also features a skate-able pathway with a kicker gap. Shade structures were also incorporated for spectators and skaters to catch a break from the Arizona sun. This skate oasis has something for every level of skater, not to mention one of the most beautiful views of any skate park in the world!
Celebrity Rob Dyrdek along with professional skateboarders Manny Santiago, Chaz Ortiz and Shane O’neil came out to skate the new park and show their support.

The recent high school grad has anything but a “normal” life, with Gatorade stacked to the ceiling, a private skatepark, free plane tickets and the freedom to skate all day, every day. Literally growing up on demos and tours and having been raised on televised contests his entire life, it’s not unusual for him to run into fans or be recognized when he leaves his house. ESPN called Ortiz to talk about his new online part from Zoo York, Street League and the perks of being one of the youngest and most recognizable skateboarders in the world…Read complete article on ESPN

Chaz Ortiz talks about the filming process for his new Zoo York part in this interview, accompanied by some photos and sequences.
I wanted to film a part and put it out right away. Before, I’d film stuff and hold it, but then the footage would get old and I wouldn’t want to use it anymore. So I wanted to go hard and do this one quickly. We started around the beginning of October last year, and filmed right up ’til July 8th. The part came out on July 10th.
